Roosevelt Thomas was one of the original thought leaders of diversity and diversity management. I read Beyond Race and Gender when I first started this work as a profession, and found myself agreeing with everything I read.
His book, “Building a House for Diversity,” is one of the best books to break down why diversity and diversity management is so important, how everyone benefits, and how we all have responsibility in different ways. It’s a book that people at every level, from every background can relate to and apply to their own lives.
His latest book “World Class Diversity Management,” should be a must read in any diversity learning process, and for anybody who is in the diversity field in any part of the world.
Diversity work in organizations has a history, and if you want to understand it today, you have know it’s origins.
He was brilliant beyond brilliance, and an incredibly wonderful, kind human being. It was an honor to work with him and be a friend.
His passing is an unmeasurable loss to people who knew him, and to the field of diversity management.
Those of us who were influenced by his work and direction have a responsibility to continue it.
