Four Ways Senior Management Can Help Prevent Employees Manage Stress and Burnout

By January 5, 2010 No Comments

Here are four ways that senior management can help employees seriously manage stress and prevent burn-out, in order to create the workplace where people love to do their best work and customers love to do business. Relaxed, calm, patient employees = outstanding customer service= happy customers, return business and referrals for new business.
This includes:
1- Set examples- don’t tell your employees to not work overtime if you are at the office from 6:00 AM until midnight. They will follow your lead.
2-Train managers to manage their stress and not pass it on to employees- the more relaxed and calm a manager is, the calmer the employees will be which reduces the chance of burn-out
3-Provide timely information to employees so rumors that cause anxiety don’t arise- this also helps employees have a sense of control. Burnout occurs when people feel they are working extra hard but have no control over their time, and that it will never get better.
4-Set up systems and processes to reduce stress, train employees and emphasize personal responsibility.
-Relaxation exercises
– Plan recreation in advance and put it on your calendar. You have an appointment with yourself
– Unless you are a doctor, chances are you can let go of being a perfectionist
– Learn to let go of things you can’t control, and develop cognitive skills to help you do that.
